11/22/21 – Ten years ago I posted a series of articles on ProducersWeb. About helping your prospects to see you as a trusted advisor and not just as another insurance agent. So you will have a successful insurance sales career. In the first article, I stated that if you want long-term success selling life insurance – “Then you must stop doing the things that 90% of the agents do to have short-term success selling life insurance.” 

“Short-term success selling life insurance is playing the numbers game, contacting strangers, and trying to set enough appointments with whoever will meet with you. It also involves pushing a product to make a quick sale. So you generate some quick income.”

“Long-term success selling life insurance is about you being a trusted advisor providing a valuable service to everyone you know. It is about you learning how to truly make a positive difference in people’s lives. So they will want to do business with you, both now and in the future. And so they will spread the word about you and the great services you provide.”

Here is a question I was asked back then, and my answer…

Question: How do I pay my bills in the short run, while I am building my life insurance sales career for long-term success selling insurance as a Trusted Advisor?

Answer: Building your life insurance business for long-term success is NOT about you sacrificing your short-term sales success. It’s about you learning to do the ‘RIGHT’ things, the ‘RIGHT’ way, from the very beginning, to have short-term success. So you will guarantee your long-term success selling life insurance.

When you start your insurance sales career by going after quick, ‘one call’ sales, and pushing a specific product. Then people will see you as just another typical insurance agent. You will end up just selling smaller policies. So You will need to see a lot more people, to make a decent living. And you will have to spend a lot more time and money on prospecting. Because people do not generally refer salespeople to their friends and family! But they will refer their Trusted Advisor!

How To Have Long-Term Success Selling Life Insurance!

Do you want to make your life insurance sales career much easier and more profitable? Then it starts with you learning how to make a real difference in people’s lives. Consider, as a Branch Manager for Met Life, from 9/1989 to 1/1994, I hired 23 brand new agents. Over 10 years later, 18 of those agents were still in this business. And they were making well over $100,000 per year. Many of them made $400,000, $500,000, and much more per year because people saw them as Trusted Advisors.

According to LIMRA, the failure rate for new agents is over 86% in the first 5 years. I was able to achieve an 80% SUCCESS RATE. And they were all earning incomes that are more than triple the industry averages!
