STOP THAT THINKIN’… Get The Best Insurance Sales Ideas You Need To Succeed!
12/08/2020 – The most influential lesson I have learned from speakers throughout my lifetime is to “Stop that Thinkin’!” Stop that thinkin’ is based on Charlie Tremendous Jones’ “interrupting your train of thought”. Both concepts are similar in that they both deal with how you process information. And then how you formulate and refine the insurance sales ideas you get. But, they are different in that interrupting your train of thought begins the process. And then stop that thinkin’ is how you respond to it.
Have you ever wondered why you will win every argument in your head? But when you talk to a person you end up losing? That’s because in your head everyone thinks as you do. But that is not the case. You don’t know what you don’t know which is why interrupting your train of thought is so important. When your train of thought gets interrupted you are incorporating more and more insurance sales ideas and viewpoints into your brain. That is when growth occurs!
Interrupting your train of thought means changing the way you think, typically because of new information or stimuli that you have received. These interruptions can be small or large, and we are bombarded daily by them. A simple marketing example is a billboard you see on the side of the road with delicious-looking food from a nearby restaurant. That billboard distracts you from what you were originally thinking about and makes you think about food in the hopes that it will make you hungry so you will want their food. That’s a simple marketing example.
But interrupting the train of thought goes much deeper than that, it’s your thought process. It’s incorporating other people’s viewpoints and thought processes into your own while you enhance it. A better example would be, during those talks, you have with someone about a different insurance sales approach (idea)… and you respond, “oh, I’ve never thought of that before” that is an interruption to your train of thought!

What Is Our Job?
As your coach/mentor, I don’t have some $1,000,000,000 sales idea that will explode our insurance industry. Spoiler Alert – There is no such thing! Instead, my job is to interrupt your train of thought about what you are doing. My job is to review your situation so we can help you to evaluate your practice, procedure, case design, and how you interact with your clients. My job is to get you to think about what you do differently. But, it doesn’t matter how many times I interrupt your train of thought… if you don’t internalize it! That’s where the “Stop that Thinkin’” comes in.
When your thought is interrupted you have two options. You can reject it and keep thinking the way you always have. Or you can accept it. Stop that thinkin’ is taking it a step further and helps you to realize there is only one choice when you want to grow your insurance sales and succeed. It is all about helping you realize and internalize, so you constantly improve yourself! Though you can still choose to be stubborn. But, don’t let that happen! Stop the old thinking and bring in the new – be open, and receptive, and then let yourself grow!
