Unfortunately, the vast majority of the people that use these ‘In-Your-Face’ ads tend to be hucksters and scam artists! They know that insurance agents are like most people, they all want and look for instant gratification and immediate success.

The truth is that none of us can ‘absolutely’ guarantee that you will succeed in selling insurance!

  1. Does the company give you their full contact information? Do they provide you with the name of the owner, key people, their company address, telephone numbers, and an email contact form? If they do not list all of this information, then you must ask yourself why they don’t! You should be able to call them and talk to a real person to find out more about their Insurance Sales System, Training Program, and Support for agents to see if it is right for you, your situation, and your area. If they do not provide their names, then how can you verify their credentials? What does this tell you about them?
  2. Have these people ever actually sold any products or services in this industry? This is a key point! Is what they offer you just what they have learned from a book or they have used it in some other sales situation? Do they have any actual experience selling intangible products and services?
  3. How successful were they in personal sales? Are they just telling you they were successful? Or do they have actual proof? In this industry, every company I know gives out plaques, trophies, and other physical awards to the top 10-20% of their producers.
  4. Then how long were they in sales as a personal producer? Many agents were successful for a year or two! But are now out of insurance sales! Because what they did to get sales eventually backfired and stopped working. Yes, they made a good living for a year or two! But they were the typical pushy salesperson! They did not tell their clients the whole truth and tricked them into buying. Or they just worked with their friends and family. So, they were forced to leave insurance sales! Because they had a high lapse rate! Or they were unable to get referrals and find new prospects, etc. Are these the people that you want to help you, with your sales career?
  5. Do these people have any actual experience training new and/or experienced insurance agents and advisors? And, for how long? Just because an insurance sales system and training program worked for them does not mean they know how to train other agents on how to use it! Or, that the insurance sales systems and training programs they used are transferable to other agents and advisors?
  6. Do they work full-time training agents, and support their systems? Or, do they still work full-time in personal sales? If they work full-time in sales, then how much time will they be able to spend helping you? Accordingly, how hard will it be to contact them to get the help and support you need?
  7. Do they have testimonials from satisfied customers? Unfortunately, it is easy for people to fake written testimonials, if they do not give the agent’s full name, picture, and state. Video testimonials are harder to fake. Do they have satisfied customers that you can call?
  8. Do they have multiple endorsements from industry leaders and associations? In general, these endorsements are not easily obtained, because successful people will not risk their reputation by endorsing something that does not work! And, these endorsements are not easily faked, because it is very easy to verify if the endorsements are real! How many endorsements do they have? Do they just have one or two endorsements from a few of their friends?
  9. Do they offer a detailed list of what’s in their insurance sales systems and agent training program? Why not? Is it primarily just a lead system, just a sales system, or a software system? For insurance sales systems and agent training programs to help you, they must provide detailed information about marketing, prospecting, appointment setting, and sales. It can be the best lead system, sales idea, or software! But if it does not help you to be in front of the “Right” prospects, then it’s almost worthless!
  10. Are they upfront with the actual cost of the insurance agent training and materials? Or, do you have to call them to get the information? Why don’t they disclose the cost of their materials and agent training upfront? Are they trying to force you to contact one of their salespeople? Do they just want all of your contact information, so they can inundate you with offers? Or get you to contract with them?
  11. Do they offer personalized insurance agent training and coaching? Or, is it all just group agent training sessions? Will you get help tailored to your situation?

  15. Are they just recruiters in disguise? Unfortunately, the vast majority of recruiters will do or say whatever they believe will get you to sign up with them. They will offer you ‘Free Leads’, ‘Free Sales Systems’ and ‘Free Sales Training’ just to get you to contract with them. We suggest that, before you contract with them, ask to talk to their five newest agents. (Agents contracted within the last 6 months) If they cannot or will not do that, then what does that tell you about them?
