Over the past weekend, I was doing my hour of daily reading. I was studying about using social media to help you to be more successful in selling insurance. And I came across an AD from a ‘so-called’ marketing company. I was going to tear that ad to shreds today, but then I realized… why would I want to give their ad any light? And why would I want to stoop to their level and spread their negativity? We have enough negativity in the world today and do not need or want anymore. After all, it’s election time and all the negative press floating around is about all I can take. (Don’t Forget To Vote!) How about we start off today with a positive message about how and why to set specific insurance sales goals to be successful in selling insurance?

What target are you trying to hit in selling insurance? Are you just trying to hit the big target anywhere? Or are you trying to hit the bulls-eye?
Does this really matter? Yes, it does! If you just set goals to set goals, then you are never going to get where you want to get. Whereas pros set specific, well-defined insurance sales goals and have a specific target to reach for! So they guarantee they will be successful selling insurance and their services. Let’s look at an example.

Broad Goals – These are what I hear from agents mostly. “I want to increase my commissions.” or “I want more appointments a week.” Unfortunately, they are too broad and you don’t really have a set target to hit. So, you are happy that you hit your goal when you increase your commissions just by $100! Or when you set one more appointment this week than you did last week, you feel you hit your goal! Unfortunately, those broad goals do not push you. Those broad goals are a kind of cop-out.
Eric Thomas said it best… “Most of you say you wanna be successful selling insurance, but you don’t want it bad, you just kind of want it.”
When you set those types of goals, are you really committing yourself to be successful in selling insurance? Are you committed to bettering your position and bettering your life?
When are you going to set specific insurance sales goals? Like… “I want to increase my earnings from $50,000 to $100,000 this year.” “I want to set 5 new appointments a week!” “My plan is to help 60 families this year to eliminate all their debts… to help them save more money for their future.” These are well-defined goals. They provide a specific target and a driving force behind agents who really want to be successful in selling insurance.
