I just finished re-reading the VIP interview with Norman G. Levine. Anyone reading this interview can immediately see why Mr. Levine is so respected in our industry and is considered an industry legend. And, the best part is that by reading this interview carefully, every agent and financial advisor has the foundation and critical insurance sales-building concepts they need to create a solid business plan. Now they can use the plan to take their insurance sales career to extraordinary heights.

If I may, I would like to summarize three of his critical insurance sales-building concepts:

First Insurance Sales-Building Concept… Get Known In Your Community!

Most agents and advisors are not constantly in contact with the right people. They are not doing the things they need to do to get known as the financial expert these people want to see. They are not taking the time to build a solid reputation of trust and confidence with their ideal prospects. You must live a lifestyle consistent with what you preach and be associated with the people you want to be your clients.

When you first start out in insurance sales it is OK to rely on someone else for your insurance leads. However, if you want to build your insurance sales for long-term success you must work to get known in your community. People prefer to work with people they have heard of – not strangers! You need to immediately contact everyone you know about the services you offer… your friends family, business associates, church members, association members, etc. You will want to send them a personal letter (not a sales letter) to tell them about your new career. And ask them to call you if they have any questions or need help.

The first insurance sales-building concept is to start by sending out 10 letters per week and then follow up the next week with a phone call. Plus, you will want to start getting a special message out to the people in your community.

Second Insurance Sales-Building Concept… Be The Trusted Advisor In Your Community!

Most agents and advisors are one-dimensional. They are product-driven and not addressing all of the economic risks of the prospect. They are not buying into the big picture of financial advising! Your future is based on being a trusted advisor, not a product-driven salesperson.

Then it is helping people to find the best solutions for those problems. After you do that, “Now you begin the sales process.”
