How To Get Off To A Fast Start Selling Life Insurance!Dear Friends, After two years in the business, I was only working 20 hours per week selling life insurance. Because I found out that when you learn to take good care of and help your clients, you will get all the referrals you need. So, that you don’t have to spend a lot of your time or money on marketing and prospecting. Because when you are working with referrals the sales are easier and much larger. So, you only need 3 sales per week to get off to a fast start selling life insurance. I got the best training for a new insurance agent to get off to a fast start selling insurance.

When you work smarter and learn the proper ways to help your clients… Then you will get off to a fast start selling life insurance. This is also the lesson I used in training new insurance agents over the past 40 years… This lesson helped new agents get off to a fast start selling life insurance.

Training New Agents For A Fast Start Selling Life Insurance.

In 1989, my wife and I decided to move to Florida, because she wanted to be near her aging parents. It sounded like a great idea. But, that meant I would have to start all over again to find prospects to build my life insurance sales. Or, maybe I could find a Branch Manager’s position with Met Life, in Florida.

As it turned out, there was a branch that needed a manager. As luck would have it, the branch was only 15 miles from where my wife’s parents lived. But, it was one of the worst branches in the entire country for Met Life. The branch had 10 insurance agents. But they only had a total of $30,000 of commissions for the entire year of 1989. So, I had my work cut out for me! I needed to recruit and train new agents to get off to a fast start selling life insurance. Plus, I had to train those 10 existing new agents how to sell a lot more life insurance.

The good part is, that I had the experience of training new and experienced insurance agents as a former Business and Estate Planning Liaison and Associate Branch Manager for Met Life. This gave me a good idea of what I needed to do to train new agents to get off to a fast start selling life insurance.

Please note: In my first 7 years with Met Life, I saw hundreds of new agents come into life insurance sales, get training, and leave within 2 years. So, I was determined that I would not have the same high failure rate. My goal was to make it easy… so that every new agent would have the training they needed to get off to a fast start selling life insurance. And the agent training so they would be successful long term.

I also found that most of the people in Florida were transplants from New York, Ohio, etc. So, most of the new agents I hired did not know a lot of people!

Accordingly, I had to come up with a simple and easy way to train new agents to find insurance prospects. So they would get off to a fast start selling life insurance. And that is where all of the lessons from my 3 mentors came into play!

The Training To Get New Agents Off To A Fast Start Selling Life Insurance!

I decided that the easiest niche market to get started with was to use mortgage insurance as a way to get in the prospect’s door. So, I worked with the 10 agents I already had… and I taught them how to use questions to set sales appointments with all the people they called, including their family and friends. For the first few weeks, we had phone clinics every night. I would get on the phone and set a few sales appointments for one of them. Then I would listen to them and help them to do it themselves.

During the day, I would role-play the fact-finding and questioning process with one of the agents. I would do an actual fact-find on one of them so that they could all see how it is done. Then I would put them in small groups to fact-find each other.

This training process worked well and I was able to get 6 of the 10 new agents to significantly improve their life insurance sales in just a few weeks. Unfortunately, four of the ten new agents were burned out and decided to leave within the year.

The End Result of the Fast Start New Agent Training!

Over the next four years, we recruited and trained 23 new agents using the same insurance training process. All of them got off to a fast start selling life insurance. Over those 4 years, we only lost two new agents who quit the business. And we had 2 new agents, a husband, and wife, that transferred to a Met Life office in Ohio… where they had come from 2 years before.

At the end of the four years, our branch had gone from being one of the worst in the country to being in the top 10% of all Met Life Branches.

All the new agents I recruited and trained got off to a fast start using mortgage insurance as the best way to set sales appointments and sell life insurance. On each appointment they would do a complete fact find, to find out what problems the prospect had. And then what they wanted for their future. Then they would help their clients find the money to take action. As a result, we were selling a lot of permanent, cash-value, life insurance to pay off their home early, fund a tax-free retirement, and /or save for a college education… And their prospects got all of the life insurance they needed to protect their family!

In addition, because they were really helping their clients, they were starting to get a lot of referrals from their clients.

Please note: As a branch manager for Met Life, from 1989 to 1994, Lew hired and trained 23 new insurance agents. Then over 10 years later, 18 of the new agents he trained were still selling life insurance… And all 18 of them were earning well over $100,000 per year. In addition, they work 40 hours or less per week and do it all within 5-10 miles of their home or office.
